Business Loan Eligibility: A Checklist for Hyderabad MSMEs

08 Mar 2025 5 min read FinCred Team

Hyderabad's MSME ecosystem has grown rapidly, and access to timely business credit is often the difference between scaling up and stagnating. Before you approach a bank or NBFC for a business loan, understanding the eligibility checklist can save you time and improve your approval odds.

Business vintage is one of the first things lenders assess. Most banks prefer businesses operational for at least 2-3 years, as this demonstrates stability and a track record. Newer businesses aren't automatically disqualified, but they may face stricter scrutiny or be directed toward specialized MSME loan schemes.

Annual turnover and profitability are equally important. Lenders typically want to see consistent or growing revenue over the past 2 financial years, along with healthy profit margins after accounting for expenses. Wildly fluctuating revenue can raise red flags, even if the average looks acceptable.

Your business's banking relationship matters too. Lenders review your last 12 months' current account statements to understand cash flow patterns, average balances, and how you handle existing financial obligations. Frequent cheque bounces or overdrafts are viewed unfavorably.

GST compliance has become a standard eligibility filter. Regular and accurate GST filings not only keep you compliant but also serve as verifiable proof of business turnover that lenders increasingly rely on, sometimes more than self-declared financials.

Existing debt obligations are factored into your eligibility through what's called the Debt-to-Income or Debt-Service Coverage Ratio. If your business already has significant EMI outflows relative to income, your eligibility for additional credit reduces proportionally.

The personal credit history of business owners or partners also plays a role, especially for proprietorships and partnerships where personal and business finances are closely linked. A strong personal CIBIL score (700+) strengthens your application even if business financials are still developing.

Finally, having a clear purpose for the loan β€” whether working capital, equipment purchase, or expansion β€” and a basic plan for how the funds will be utilized and repaid, makes for a more convincing application than a vague funding request.

FinCred works with MSMEs across Hyderabad to assess eligibility honestly upfront, match you with the right lender for your business stage, and handle the documentation process so you can focus on running your business.
